This is a nice, drinkable, fruity and elegant red wine. Can't beat it at this price.

Review 6 for The Waxed Bat 2012
My Favorite Wine is:Red & White Wine
Date:July 3, 2013
We've tried 3 bottles of this over the past five months, tasting them between 5 mins and 24 hrs decanting (bottles stored in cellar.) It tastes best after 1 to 1.5 hrs where it develops a smooth raisiny, integrated flavor similar to an Amarone. However, all bottles had a subtle chemical taste making it so we didn't finish any of them. I'm hoping we just got a bad case because we loved Opi's Malbec and the Waxed Bat Reserve 2010. I wouldn't recommend the 2012, except for cooking.
In our opinion this is the best vintage of the "Waxed Bat" so far and we have tasted 4 vintages. The wine pours a lovely rich deep red/purple color. The nose projects the aromas of dark fruits, licorice & smoke and you can definitely pick up on the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon to this blend. The taste just as the smell is big & bold with flavors of blackberry fruit and toasty oak coming forth. It is much more refined tasting from the previous vintages.
The 'Waxed Bat' is the perfect example of a wine that can be called "chewy". It pours a deep opaque purple color and after a few sips it will turn your teeth & gums the same color. It's thick & heavy tasting with notes of smoke, blackberry, exotic spices and alcohol in abundance. It's not your everyday wine, but it can be a lot of fun to drink every now & then.
